Writing a blog based in Florence means that there is no way that you can possibly avoid writing about art. This is a city famed for artists, family rivalries, bustling creativity, ruthless bankers and though I personally did not study art in Florence – I certainly appreciate it. February has been a great month for local exhibits and I happened to visit The Dali Universe on the first day of opening at the Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
With over a 100 artworks in this exhibit, the focus is on Dali’s underrated sculptures, furniture, glass objects, illustrations and more. His creativity knows no bounds. He also was a man of quotes including this one I personally adore
“Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.”
Growing up I really enjoyed painting and drawing and Dali was an artist that always intrigued me with his dream-like paintings. I didn’t flinch at the 10 euro ticket price to enter Palazzo Medici Riccardi or “house of the Medici” and lose myself once again in the art of Dali in my beloved city of Florence. I really liked the sculptures in the beautiful lemon garden, one of which was an angel on a snail which he created after meeting the famous psychiatrist, Sigmund Freud. I say come and get lost in the wonderful magical world of Dali, this was an exhibit I really enjoyed.

Thank you so much for these beautiful pictures of some of Dalì’s work! I used to go to the Palazzo Medici Riccardi to study the manuscripts, but I love this other side of the Palazzo too. It’s always worth a visit (or two, three…) 🙂
