I saw this funny e-card online and had to share because like the term ‘bucket list’,  resolutions always annoy me because I feel as if they are a set up for a sure failure for the average person or maybe just me ;). I strongly believe that at any time, at any moment, you can change your life to make it better according to you without it having to start January 1, 2013. If that means making more money, losing weight, spending more time with loved ones, visiting a country you’ve always dreamed about it – just make it happen, list or no list. After all,

The only one stopping you from anything in this world is yourself.

Of course if it helps you to define goals that need defining or you want a little chicken soup for the soul {remember those books!} than by all means make that list and go ahead and check it twice. My suggestion if you do so, to first make a list of  all of the awesome things you did in 2012. Seriously, for the sake of our mental health shouldn’t we first put things into perspective of how the year actually went down and focus on the good parts instead of what woulda, coulda, shoulda?

In Los Angeles, I remember when everyone was passing around the book called “the Secret” which many people actually thought they were the first to discover, nope. It kind of reminded me of what I would imagine the Scientology doctrine to be – this idea of “if you imagine it, it will come”. Right-o then, problems solved. The truth is that us human beings are complicated, we are different, and have a wide-range of expectations in life and paths and that is worth remembering when we start comparing and over-analyzing every life-detail.

For me, what I value most is relationships with people –  friends, family, and my boyfriend. Nothing is as important to myself as having valuable people around me because that is what I need to be happy. Also experiences, which luckily in Italy are so easy to come by, whether it be discovering a new place or rediscovering an old one.

So, no list of 2013 resolutions for this girl in florence – just going to be live life one day at a time and just try to be a good girlfriend, sister, daughter and friend.

What about you? What do you think of resolutions as a whole? love them or hate them – I want to hear why!

  1. I never make any resolutions either — for some reason if I get things in a formal list, even just a to-do list, I’m almost guaranteed to never do them. It is a good time for reflection on the year though – I really love your idea about focusing on the positive from 2012 instead! 🙂

    1. I agree that you can’t help but reflect at the end of the year, heck I have done so more than once. I just think as human beings we all should be a little easier on ourselves. At least if people start remembering all of the awesome things they already did instead of focusing on the “didn’ts”, your reflections will be much much more positive 😀

  2. I just happen to fall upon your blog a couple of days ago and I wanted to first compliment you on the great work.
As for your question, well, God there is so much that one can do in life that limiting it to a list I think is just impossible. In any case the new year always opens with great expectations for us all, we just have to make sure to keep on striving for what we want and not get sidetracked by all the ups and downs life throws at us.
    Anyway, from a Neapolitan/American expat,
    Felice Anno Nuovo!

    1. Thanks so much Anthony! I have a good feeling about 2013 and hey, whatever happens happens.. At least for me, living one day at a time works best.

Felice anno nuovo anche a te!!!!
