Weekend in Tuscany: Part 2 – cooking competition & horse play

pooltime

I finally got a chance to sit down, relax and write part two of my Tuscan adventure at Tenuta Lupinari in Valdambra, Tuscany. You can catch up on part one here if you haven’t read it yet. I left off at an appropriate point – cartoon characters in the town of Castelnuovo. After taking silly pictures, we headed over to Villa a Sesta winery for a tour and tasting. Where they store the wine was pretty impressive, think modern steel…

Weekend in Tuscany: part 1 – show cooking and cartoon characters!

castello_lupinari

So many agriturismi in Tuscany, how does a girl to know which one to visit? If I had my way {and mind you, an infinite supply of money} I would visit them all as long as they met a few basic, very important qualities. Comfortable, rustic but not too rustic. Basically I don’t want to sleep in a grandmother’s 40 year old guest cot, because if I wanted to do that, I’d just stay home and sleep in my own…

Discovering Winetown 2012 – music, wine and beautiful scenery

DSCN4707

Winetown 2012 in Florence – two days of trying some of the best wines in Italy while listening to classical music or jazz, theater, strange “shows” and trying some delicious Tuscan products to boot. I had a chance to go on Friday and check out the festivities before meeting for a friend’s birthday. The participating palazzi were dispersed in different areas around town where festival-goers can purchase a card that comes with a glass to tout around each location and have…

Chianti Classico Wine Festival 2012

DSCN4529

Interpret what you may from the above photo but quite frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Aside from the double innuendos – Chianti Classico held their 42nd annual wine festival expo in Greve in Chianti this past weekend and we hopped in our car on Saturday to try a few wines (ok maybe a lot) and see what Greve had to offer. This event features producers of the famous ‘black rooster’, highly-rated wine from the surrounding area and lets them showcase their…

September events in Florence and Tuscany 2012

sagre-piazzale-big

September is always one of my favorite times of the year to be in Florence, mainly because the weather is starting to calm down and it’s nearing wine harvest season – always my favorite time of year ;). If you want a full list of events by the comune, check out this comprehensive PDF list (in Italian) here. There are many really interesting events this year in Florence and this just happens to be a compilation of my top picks. Obviously I tend to…

Why you should visit Panzano (Chianti) in Tuscany

DSCN2374

Saturday for us this weekend meant a trip to Panzano to meet some friends for lunch and a chance to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside. Surprisingly, neither of us had ever been. Apparently in Chianti the only places we deemed worthy of visiting were “cantine aperte” (open wine cellar day) and Greve in Chianti which is another nice town in one of the most famous wine regions in Tuscany. It’s easy to get there, with both SITA offering once an…
